Vitamin C with Rose Hips is helpful to maintain the health of blood vessels, bones, teeth, skin and cartilage. It also helps to protect the body's cells from damage and is known for its antioxidant properties.
Rose hips are also useful in boosting and maintaining the body's immune system, due to their high vitamin C content. Rose hips are the small fruits that appear on a rose plant after blossoming. They look similar to tiny pomegranates or tomatoes, growing at the tip of the stem, and are red or orange in color. Rose hips have a variety of uses stemming from their high vitamin content, including vitamin C.
Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin which means that your body doesn’t store it. Our main source for Vitamin C would be the fruits and vegetables we eat. In most cases, the vitamins we get from the food we eat aren’t enough which is why it is important that you supplement your diet with this important anti-oxidant.
Vitamin C provides antioxidant protection for many of the body's important enzyme systems. White blood cells (neutrophils) utilize Vitamin C to help produce cytotoxic enzymes which they use to eliminate foreign matter. It also helps strengthen collagen, a major connective protein. Vitamin C also plays an important role in the P450 enzyme detoxification system.
Rose hips are also useful in the treatment of colds due to their high content of vitamin C, and can be used as a Vitamin C substitute, or combined. Rose Hips also act as a mild laxative and diuretic, and can be used to help regulate bowels or treat diarrhea.
From the FDA's website: "Some scientific evidence suggests that consumption of antioxidant vitamins may reduce the risk of certain forms of cancer. However, FDA has determined that this evidence is limited and not conclusive."
